Meghan Markle ‘crossed a line’ on Australia tour as palace ‘concerned’ over outfits
Palace insiders fear Meghan Markle has “crossed a line” by monetising her outfits during her Australia tour, sparking backlash over blending business with charity.

Meghan Markle has reportedly “crossed a line” during her latest visit to Australia, with royal insiders raising concerns over the commercialisation of her wardrobe during the high-profile trip.
The Duchess, alongside Prince Harry, has spent several days touring cities including Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra as part of what has been described as a “quasi-royal” tour. While the couple’s appearances have drawn large crowds, it is Meghan’s fashion choices that have dominated headlines, and sparked controversy behind palace walls.

The Duchess has been showcasing a series of polished yet increasingly bold outfits during public engagements, but scrutiny intensified after it emerged she is financially linked to OneOff, a shopping platform featuring items worn by celebrities.
Her personal page on the platform includes several outfits worn during the tour, allowing fans to purchase similar pieces via direct links. Among them is the black “Priscilla Dress” by Karen Gee, worn during a visit to a children’s hospital in Melbourne, alongside jewellery such as Real Fine Studio earrings.
According to reports, the platform generates commission on sales, with a portion believed to be shared with contributors — raising concerns within royal circles about the blending of commerce and charitable appearances.
A source told the Telegraph that the Palace is “considerably concerned” by the move, suggesting it undermines the spirit of public service traditionally associated with royal engagements.
Another insider was more blunt, claiming the approach “appears to have crossed a line,” particularly given that some of the featured outfits were worn during visits to charitable organisations.
The controversy has been further fuelled by backlash over a high-end “girls’ weekend” event in Sydney, where Meghan is appearing as a VIP speaker. Ticket prices for the multi-day retreat start at £1,439, with premium packages exceeding £1,700, offering perks including close seating at a gala dinner and group photographs with the Duchess.
Promoted as a luxury experience focused on “reconnection” and “powerful conversations,” the event has drawn criticism from some observers who question the optics of such pricing during a tour that includes philanthropic elements.
Despite the backlash, the Duke and Duchess continue to attract strong public interest during their visit, with supporters praising Meghan’s style and independence.
However, with tensions reportedly growing behind the scenes, the tour has once again highlighted the ongoing balancing act between the couple’s commercial ventures and their public roles.
