Wednesday season 2’s cast changes address a major Addams Family complaint stemming from the Netflix show’s debut season. With production underway, more details surrounding Wednesday season 2 are being released, including tweaks to the show’s cast list. While the core group of Wednesday‘s cast of characters will mostly stay the same, the follow-up installment will introduce a few new faces and tweak the presence of existing figures. Based on Wednesday season 1’s ending, there were hints about where season 2 could be heading, but the cast updates provide even more insight.
Wednesday season 2 officially added 12 cast members while also dropping several characters, including Percy Hynes White’s Xavier. Among the new cast is Christopher Lloyd, who memorably portrayed Uncle Fester in the early ’90s Addams Family movies. Lloyd’s addition repeats Christina Ricci’s Wednesday casting trick from season 1 and strengthens the connection between the two Addams Family eras. In addition to new characters, Wednesday season 2 is giving a handful of characters more screen time. Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday was obviously a fan favorite, but a few figures deserved more time in the spotlight.

Wednesday Season 1 Didn’t Have Enough Of The Addams Family
Appearances By Other Notable Addams Family Characters Were Limited

It’s no secret that Wednesday became a monumental success for Netflix, but with every release comes some criticism. One complaint for Wednesday‘s debut season was the lack of The Addams Family‘s most notable characters. Sure, it makes sense that other family members weren’t the primary focus, considering the show centered on Wednesday and her time at Nevermore Academy. However, Gomez, Morticia, and Pugsley’s initial appearances were relatively brief. Even when Gomez and Morticia were involved, it came in the form of flashbacks.
Aside from Wednesday‘s first episode, Gomez, Morticia, and Pugsley were limited to the Parents’ Weekend storyline in episode 5, while Uncle Fester made a surprise visit in episode 7. It was interesting to get insight into Wednesday’s relationship with each core family member, but it certainly only scratched the surface of what the show could potentially delve into. Even Thing got more of an arc, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing considering how much of a valuable ally he became for Wednesday. Still, Wednesday proved that there was room to grow.
Gomez, Morticia & Pugley’s Actors Are Series Regulars in Wednesday Season 2
Another Notable Addams Family Character Is Also Joining Season 2

Ortega’s character will still be the show’s most important character, but adjusting the main players around her can pay off.
Thankfully, Wednesday season 2 is addressing the lack of Addams Family characters. As part of the casting report, it was confirmed that Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), and Isaac Ordone (Pugsley) have been promoted to series regulars. By giving immediate family bigger roles, Wednesday season 2 is essentially fixing any concerns about a lack of Addams Family members. The casting announcement assures that all three will be seen more compared to season 1.
Not only will Gomez, Morticia, and Pugsley get more screen time in season 2, but a few more notable Addams Family characters will also be in the mix. Aside from the return of Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, season 2 will introduce Joanna Lumley as Grandmama, a popular character in past iterations of the franchise. The more prominent focus on family is a great sign for those who wanted stronger connections to the source material while building upon Wednesday’s personal teenage journey. Ortega’s character will still be the show’s most important character, but adjusting the main players around her can pay off.
How Will The Addams Family Fit Into Wednesday Season 2?
There Are Several Ways To Put The Addams Family In The Spotlight

If Wednesday season 2 relies more on other Addams Family characters, the question now shifts to what that means for the story direction. On one hand, it suggests they could have a more regular presence at Nevermore Academy. Gomez, Morticia, and Pugsley’s visit to Jericho was an impactful time for Wednesday in season 1, so the follow-up installment could set up something similar but to a larger degree that keeps them in the area longer. That said, there’s a more logical explanation for the increased presence of the trio.
Wednesday season 2 previously teased the Addams Family mansion being introduced in the Netflix show. If their house becomes a notable setting, it suggests Wednesday could be spending a portion of the season at home rather than Nevermore Academy. Whether it’s some sort of break from school or something more serious, seeing Ortega’s character in the environment she probably feels more comfortable in would be exciting. It also creates more intriguing family interactions, such as Wednesday’s relationship with her mother or her unique bond with Pugsley.
