Aimee opted out of appearing on The Osbournes

Jack Osbourne has admitted that he and his seldom-seen sister Aimee Osbourne are “not close at all” while discussing her decision to avoid appearing on the iconic MTV show The Osbournes.

The revolutionary reality series followed rock icon Ozzy Osbourne and his family throughout four seasons. While Jack, 39, and his sister Kelly, 40, became household names through the MTV hit, 41-year-old Aimee opted to remain completely out of the spotlight.

Ozzy and Sharon’s oldest child reportedly feared she would be viewed as “riding on the coat-tails” of her family members while trying to build her own career in music.

Speaking on the Disrespectfully podcast, Jack disclosed: “Back then she really wanted to be a musician and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody…and she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit,” reports the Daily Star.

The Osbournes ran from 2002 to 2005

“She was like, ‘I’m not going to be seen riding coat-tails,’ kind of thing, that’s how she perceived it.”

He added, “Once the show was hugely successful I think she was kind of like, ‘Well I can’t now come on because I don’t want to be seen even more so as jumping on the bandwagon’. And she dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.”

The Osbournes is credited with pioneering the path for reality shows focused on celebrity families. It documented the household dealing with difficult circumstances including Sharon’s cancer battle and a quad bike accident that almost killed Ozzy.

When asked if Aimee had any second thoughts about skipping the show, Jack replied, “I’ve never had the conversation with her, we’re not close at all. We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that, so it’s no secret.

“I’ve never asked her outright, ‘Do you regret it,’ I think there must be a level of like, ‘Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I’d done that,’ so I don’t know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it.”

When pushed on whether he’s “glad” he participated in the show, Jack said, “Absolutely, it was such an interesting thing to be a part of, especially how much media has changed, there’s just not that level of excitement around TV anymore like there was back then.”

Aimee was recently spotted with her family members as she attended her father’s memorial service. The rock icon Ozzy died aged 76 on July 22, just weeks after his final performance with Black Sabbath.

The family stopped at Black Sabbath bridge in Birmingham to see the tributes placed by thousands of fans since Ozzy’s death. They met supporters shouting “Ozzy” and stayed for around five minutes before the procession continued.

The Black Sabbath frontman was laid to rest next to a decorative lake on his sprawling 250-acre estate in Buckinghamshire. Since his passing, fans have been leaving flowers outside the property as a tribute.
