Stranger Things season 5 will bring the whole Hawkins crew back for one final mission against the horrors of the Upside Down, and thanks to this, it looks to be bringing back an exciting team from season 1. After four successful seasons full of mysteries and shocking reveals, Stranger Things is ending with its fifth season, and it has a lot to cover to properly wrap up the series. Stranger Things season 4 ended on the show’s bleakest cliffhanger, as Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) plans were set into motion and the Upside Down started to take over Hawkins.

In addition to that, Max’s (Sadie Sink) encounter with Vecna left her severely injured and in a coma, and the chances for a full recovery are slim. The Hawkins crew now has a bigger threat to defeat thanks to Vecna, and they will have to work as a team to finally end his reign of horror in the Upside Down and the human world. The crew has a lot of ground to cover, so it’s not surprising that they will be divided into groups one final time, and among them is one that hasn’t been seen since season 1.

Stranger Things Season 5 Teases Nancy, Jonathan, & Steve Teaming Up Again

Nancy, Jonathan, & Steve Have Only Teamed Up Once

Despite being the older teens in the Hawkins crew, Jonathan, Steve, and Nancy haven’t teamed up except for that one time at Jonathan’s house in season 1.

Plot details about Stranger Things season 5 are still a mystery, but the Duffer Brothers have been sharing some photos from the behind-the-scenes of shooting the show’s final season. Of course, these photos are carefully selected so they won’t reveal any potential spoilers or plot points, but they still feature a couple of details that can give the audience an idea of what to expect from season 5. A batch of these pics features looks at Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) in the backseat of Steve’s (Joe Keery) car, followed by a photo of the Duffer Brothers, Keery, Dyer, and Heaton looking at a tablet.

In that second pic, Dyer and Heaton are wearing the same clothes as in the car pic, hinting at Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve working together in Stranger Things season 5. Despite being the older teens in the Hawkins crew, Jonathan, Steve, and Nancy haven’t teamed up except for that one time at Jonathan’s house in season 1. Back then, Jonathan and Nancy lured the Demogorgon to Jonathan’s house and Steve arrived unexpectedly to apologize to Jonathan. Steve ended up being dragged into the fight against the Demogorgon as the creature crashed through the ceiling, and they caught the creature.

This is the only time in Stranger Things that Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve have teamed up, and after that, they have been on separate teams, such as the Scoops Troop in season 3 and the California and Hawkins teams in season 4. Stranger Things season 5 has been teased to be going back to the show’s roots, so it feels fitting that Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve will team up again, and hopefully, for longer than the first time.

Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve have developed different skills and abilities throughout Stranger Things.

Not only does the Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve team make sense in Stranger Things season 5 due to the season 1 connection and they being the only ones from the group of older teens who have been on this from the beginning, but also thanks to their individual experiences. As Will’s older brother, Jonathan saw what it’s like being manipulated by the Mind Flayer and the effects this has on those around the possessed person, and all the research he did with Nancy in seasons 2 and 3 will surely come in handy in season 5.

Both Nancy and Steve have already been to the Upside Down more than once, and Nancy has the extra of having been subjected to Vecna’s haunting visions. Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve have developed different skills and abilities throughout Stranger Things, and putting them together makes a team that has a fair amount of knowledge about Hawkins Lab and enough experience in the Upside Down and with its biggest monsters, so they could be key in finding the right way to defeat Vecna once and for all.

What Will Happen With Stranger Things’ Nancy, Jonathan, & Steve Love Triangle?

Nancy, Jonathan, & Steve Are Stranger Things’ Complicated Love Triangle

Stranger Things season 4 hinted at the possibility of Nancy and Steve getting back together.

Having Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan together in Stranger Things season 5 raises the big question of what will happen with their ongoing love triangle. At the beginning of Stranger Things season 1, Nancy and Steve were together, but she broke up with him at the beginning of season 2. Stranger Things season 2 ended with Nancy and Jonathan getting together, and their relationship continued throughout seasons 3 and 4, becoming a long-distance one in the latter. However, Stranger Things season 4 hinted at the possibility of Nancy and Steve getting back together as the latter still has feelings for her.

Bringing them together in Stranger Things season 5 will inevitably lead to a proper conclusion of their love triangle, but that could go in many different ways. Stranger Things has become known for killing beloved characters and both Steve and Jonathan have been theorized to die in the final season, so the ending to the Jonathan-Nancy-Steve love triangle could be tragic after watching them work together.
