Kendrick Lamar is preparing to light up the stage at the Super Bowl 2025 halftime show, but the rapper won’t take home a paycheck for his highly anticipated performance

Kendrick Lamar, the 37-year-old hip-hop maestro, is slated to headline the halftime show at the 2025 Super Bowl.
He will be joined by R&B sensation and frequent collaborator SZA. Despite what some may believe, Lamar won’t be receiving a hefty paycheck for his performance. In fact, he won’t be paid at all.
This might seem surprising, but it’s actually standard procedure for Super Bowl halftime performers not to receive payment. Instead, the NFL covers all costs associated with the show, including travel expenses
An NFL representative explained to The Independent that the league “covers all costs associated with the show and does pay the halftime performers’ union scale” for Lamar’s team.
The expectation is that the exposure from the performance, which usually garners over 100 million viewers worldwide, serves as a massive promotional boost for the artist’s music and other projects.

After her stunning 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, Rihanna saw a significant increase in her music and Fenty Beauty brand sales.
Immediately following the live event, the Umbrella singer’s tracks experienced a staggering 640 percent surge on Spotify.
According to Launchmetrics’ brand performance insight tool, the Barbadian star accumulated a media impact value of $88.3 million in the first 12 hours after her performance.

Lady Gaga saw a remarkable 1000 percent surge in her album and song sales following her electrifying 2017 performance.
Similarly, Jennifer Lopez gained 2.3 million new Instagram followers after her 2020 halftime show with Shakira.
It’s important to note the hefty amounts spent on these halftime spectacles; the NFL and Apple Music typically contribute around $10 million for production staff, extravagant sets, and top-notch audio equipment.
Interestingly, The Weeknd in 2021 and Dr. Dre previously dug deep into their own pockets, spending $7 million each to enhance their performances.
The forthcoming Super Bowl LIX, set for February 9 at 6:30 p.m. in New Orleans, will feature an exciting clash between the current powerhouses, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Recalling their last face-off in 2023, it was the Chiefs who triumphed with a thrilling 38-35 victory.
Kendrick Lamar scored a significant victory at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night, beating out Beyonce and the Beatles among other music stars for Record of The Year with his explosive hip-hop anthem Not Like Us.
Kendrick’s win for his scathing track about Drake seems to further solidify the victor of their rap feud.
Many voiced their support for Kendrick’s win on X, formerly Twitter, viewing it as evidence of who truly won the fierce diss track battle between the two rap superstars that unfolded last year.
