It appears fans will face an extended wait to see Wednesday Season 2 hit the small screen as a new report confirms a new release window for the record-breaking Netflix series.
Per Deadline, Wednesday‘s second season won’t premiere until 2025 after Netflix released its TV slate set to debut new seasons in 2024. Wednesday, along with Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season, is among the list of anticipated series left off this year’s slate due to delays caused by last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. It means the second season of Wednesday will air three years after Season 1 debuted all its episodes simultaneously in November 2022.
Jenna Ortega Moves Up as Producer for Season 2
Lead actor Jenna Ortega will be a producer for Season 2 and has indicated her desire to see more horror and less romantic tropes involving her central character, Wednesday Addams, in the upcoming season. Season 1 explored Wednesday’s misadventures at Nevermore Academy as she gradually honed her psychic abilities, thwarted killing sprees and further examined the mystery that embroiled her parents. Ortega’s future as Wednesday‘s lead beyond Season 2 is in doubt, however, amid comments she’s made previously about the creative process for Season 1.
Ortega starred in Wednesday Season 1 alongside Christina Ricci, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joy Sunday and Emma Myers. Thanks to the show’s various viral moments and solid performances, Wednesday became Netflix’s highest-viewed English-language series of all time, beating the record previously held by Stranger Things Season 4. Wednesday‘s Season 2 renewal was announced in January of last year.
Along with subverting its romantic tropes, Wednesday Season 2 is also expected to feature new characters, including a new Addams Family member, as hinted by cast members. However, it’s been reported Xavier Thorpe, played by Percy Hyne White, will not feature in the upcoming season.
Fans can stream all episodes of Wednesday Season 1 via Netflix or get it on Blu-ray.
