Well, that wasn’t supposed to happen. Miranda Lambert was mid-interview when her ex-husband Blake Shelton came up.
But it was worse than that.
Shelton’s song “God Gave Me You” began to play during a segment of This Past Weekend With Theo Von. It wasn’t intentional, which made it only a little less awkward.
Lambert and Shelton divorced in 2015 after four years of marriage.
“God Gave Me You” was their wedding song.
Media outlets are typically asked not to question Lambert about Shelton during interviews.
Von, the show host, was simply reminiscing about old radio shows and landed on the Cryin’, Lovin’ or Leavin’ Show. Wanting to take it further, he asked his producer to fire up a clip.
He did, claiming to play the first clip he stumbled upon. After navigating through Taste of Country sister station WYRK in Buffalo’s website, he hit play, and … well, see for yourself:
We confirmed — this soundbite is indeed the first one that comes up when you Google search. So, we’ll believe that it was just a coincidence.
Lambert believed, Von too.
“Perfect,” she says in the moment, laughing hysterically. “That was actually perfect … My first wedding song, guys, let’s play that.”
Brooks & Dunn, Post Malone and Luke Combs are other recent country guests on This Past Weekend With Theo Von.
Lambert is doing interviews in support of her new Postcards From Texas album. She’s currently married to Brendan McLoughlin. Actually, as of this year, that union has lasted longer than her marriage to Shelton. She talks about McLoughlin, too, during her Theo Von interview.

Miranda Lambert paid $3.4 million in 2016 for her rural estate an hour south of Nashville, which comprises 400 acres of lush green farmland. The property includes rolling hills, rustic living spaces and an enormous horse barn, as well as three residences, a lake with a boathouse and a six-bay garage. There are 75 acres of fenced-in pastureland, as well as lighted walking trails that wind through the woods leading to a pavilion, with seating for 60 for private concerts.
