Chatting casually about his time around the campfire, Martin laughed about his surprise revelation that he once auditioned for James Bond, telling hosts that he’d “probably make a better villain.” But then came the twist.

With a knowing grin, he added:
“Maybe they could get Tony Hadley.”

The studio laughed — but the meaning was crystal clear.
Martin followed it with:

Spandau Ballet’s glamorous rise in the 80s was matched only by the intensity of their internal clashes. The group first fractured in 1990, spiralling into a bitter royalties court battle that tore relationships apart. Martin, Tony, and Gary Kemp didn’t speak for years.

A 2009 reunion briefly rekindled hope. Fans celebrated. The tension eased.
But history repeated itself — the band were rocked again when Tony walked away for good in 2017, citing irreparable differences.

Away from the drama, Martin reflected warmly on his time in camp. He admitted he arrived unsure about bonding with strangers, but ended up valuing the deep conversations most of all.

“I’ve dreamt about this moment,” he said, sipping champagne after his exit.
“I’ve experienced it all — and I’ve come away with stories I’ll keep forever.”

He also addressed being dubbed the “camp dad”, laughing that calmness simply comes from “life experience.”

And when asked whether he was disappointed not to beat his son Roman’s 2019 third-place finish?
Martin didn’t hesitate:
“I’m glad I didn’t. He’s my boy — I love him.”
