The Singing Janitor Richard Goodall will be in the finals of America’s Got Talent. The Terre Haute native remains in Los Angeles as he prepares for the AGT finals on September 17.

In an interview with WTWO, Richard talked about how he feels about being in the finals, preparing to perform, the advice he is receiving, interaction with AGT judges and much more.

When asked about the Semifinals night, he described it as “surreal,” noting that it’s the only word that truly captures the whirlwind of emotions he’s been feeling.

He mentioned going through a series of interviews and various filming obligations, revealing that it’s far more work than it appears on TV. “It’s been a real production,” he said with a laugh.

When pressed about the most exciting thing that has happened outside of advancing to the finals, Richard teased, “I have something big coming up that I can’t talk about yet.”

One of his standout performances from the night was his rendition of Eye of the Tiger, which he put his own unique spin on. “I knew I’d need a fight song for round three if I made it,” Richard explained. “And Eye of the Tiger was the perfect choice.”

As for the final round, Richard kept tight-lipped when asked if he could hint at his song choice. “Nope,” he said with a grin.

To his fans back home, Richard shared an inspiring message: “You’re never too old or too young to chase your dreams. Keep working at it, and eventually, you’ll get noticed. Don’t stop believing—follow your heart, follow your dreams, even if it’s just a small one.”

Reflecting on his AGT journey, Richard acknowledged that the show has made him a better singer. “This is like AGT University,” he said. “They teach you more than just singing—they help with arrangements, vocals, and even how to take care of your voice.”

He also spoke about his interactions with the judges. While he hasn’t met Sofia Vergara yet, he’s had great moments with the others. “Heidi hugs me every time she sees me, Howie fist-pumped me twice, and Simon’s been really cool, too. I even have selfies with them for proof!”

With excitement building toward the finals, Richard is ready to give it his all. “Thanks to everyone for the support,” he said. “I’ll keep going and give it my best!”

Also, the City of Terre Haute and WTWO will host a watch party for Richard. It will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the Terre Haute Convention Center. The doors will open at 7 pm and AGT starts at 8 pm. The event is limited to 500 guests and it is a free event.
