Angel Reese Issues Stern Ultimatum: “Chicago Sky Must Change — Or I Won’t Wait Around”

As the 2025 season winds down — one of the bleakest in Chicago Sky history — Angel Reese has made her position crystal clear: she’s not here to waste her prime years on a stagnant franchise.

Just like in her rookie campaign, Reese has been one of the very few bright spots in an otherwise miserable season. Averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, she continues to deliver elite numbers. But Chicago (9-30) sits at the bottom of the standings, dangerously close to finishing dead last in the league and locking in top draft lottery odds.

In a candid conversation with the Chicago Tribune, the 23-year-old star did not hold back — issuing a direct challenge to the front office:

“I’m not settling for the same mess we went through this year. We need good players — great players. That’s non-negotiable. I want to play with the best, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to bring the best here. This offseason is absolutely critical. We cannot settle again.”

The tension has also spilled onto the court. A viral clip from last week’s matchup with the Las Vegas Aces caught Reese visibly frustrated when teammate Sevgi Uzun refused to pass during a fast break and then missed the shot. Days earlier, she faced backlash for scratching Leïla Lacan’s eye while defending the Connecticut Sun star — another incident symbolizing a season full of friction and frustration.

Playing Spoiler in the Final Stretch

While the playoffs are out of reach, the Sky still have a chance to shake things up. Friday’s clash with Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever could determine the final playoff seed, and Chicago also faces back-to-back battles with the Las Vegas Aces, who are locked in a tight race for the No. 2 spot with Atlanta and Phoenix.

For Angel Reese, 2025 may end in disappointment — but her warning is loud and unmistakable: Chicago must change, or the future of its brightest young star will be written somewhere else.
